Beacon Tells Businesses to Get Googled
Local Tech Firm's Google Seminar Presents Web Optimizing Tools
North Carolina is getting to be a tech-heavy place, and Beacon Technologies' Google Analytics seminar is making sure local businesses are getting the best information possible.
An invitation-only crowd, settled into a conference room at Grandover Resort, was privy to the Web site-optimizing expertise of not only Beacon's upper echelon but also Google's own Tom Jacobik, operations manager for the Carolinas. In fact, rather than a trickle-down influence, Google may be providing a torrent; even folks from D.H. Griffin Builders, the company building Google's new data center in Lenoir, N. C., attended the seminar on how to maximize Web performance.
Introducing the crowd to Google Analytics, a powerful tool for analyzing the performance of a company's Web site, is just the first step. "The tool is free from Google and very flexible," said Tracy Dirks, Beacon's director of software development. "However, with that flexibility comes the complexity of configuring the tool to meet your needs and interpreting the results. That is where Beacon comes in."
Brad Henry, Beacon's lead search engine marketing analyst and Google Analytics Consultant, reminded the audience that an improved internet presence isn't just window dressing. "There are several tools available that can help your business identify your problem areas and take corrective action to create a better user experience and ultimately increase your bottom line."
So who needs Google Analytics? Every business does—a fact that was impressed upon one of the day's sponsors, Michelle Calton. "Whether you are a school focused on gathering leads from completed enrollment forms, or an e-commerce site focused on moving product, you will benefit from learning about how Google and Beacon could help," said Calton, Vice President of Membership at the North Carolina Technology Association. By the time the seminar and lunch ended, Mark Dirks, president of Beacon, thought that a lot of attendees got bit by the Google bug.
"I heard several people state that they needed to go back and rethink and possibly redo their Web strategy," Dirks said. "We've already gotten calls from executives in Asheville trying to convince us to host the next stop on the Google tour in the mountains."
